Welcome to Roots & Rivers, where hands-on enclosed terrarium experiences connect people with nature through real plants and living ecosystems.

What is a terrarium?
A terrarium is a self-contained mini ecosystem sealed inside a glass container, where moisture and air continuously cycle to support plant life.

What we do
Roots & Rivers offers hands-on terrarium experiences for a wide range of events and spaces, including libraries, camps, clubs, Scouts, breweries, birthday parties, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, weddings, and collaborative pop-ups with tattoo shops, cafés, pet stores, and more.

DIY Terrarium Setup

Our DIY terrarium setup runs like a buffet-style station. Participants move through stations to choose their plants, moss, and décor, then return to a table to build independently at their own pace. This format works especially well for larger groups, open-house style events, and situations where flexibility and flow are important. (Camps, pop-ups, farm events).

Guided Terrarium Workshop

Our guided workshop is a more structured experience. Participants build together step by step as we explain each layer of the terrarium and how the ecosystem works. This format typically runs about an hour and is ideal for smaller groups, classrooms, or events that benefit from a shared, instructor-led experience. (Think breweries, libraries and small private events).

What’s Included

Private events include one terrarium per participant, with:

Glass jar (32 oz, 42 oz, or 64 oz)

Live plants

Moss

Decorative elements

Optional Add-Ons

Live springtails: $5 per person

Extra plants: $3 per person

Jar Availability & Restrictions

32 oz, 42 oz, and 64 oz glass jars are available for private events

Cookie jars and plastic ornaments are reserved for DIY stations and library events only, unless otherwise approved
